The Top 5 Makeup Mistakes You’re Making

  1. Using Dirty Brushes
    • Using a brush that has product buildup on it, causes your makeup application to result in a mixture of colors; making your face look dull and unnatural. Brushes don’t only hold makeup but they hold bacteria. Washing makeup brushes is thought of to be harder than it actually is, in  How to Clean Your Brushes you will learn the easiest yet most efficient way to do this. Finally, not cleaning your brushes causes the spreading of bacteria around your face which clogs pores and stimulates your skin to breakout.
  2. Over Contouring
    • Contouring is a way to enhance or hide the features in our face. Highlight makes parts of your face bigger and brighter, like the eyes. Bronzer acts like a ‘shade’, giving the illusion of a defined face, such as: a smaller nose or hollow cheekbones.  But using a dark shade of bronzer won’t do anything but make it look as if you had dark lines running across your face. Make sure that the bronzer you use is just one shade darker than you natural skin tone to achieve that perfect natural look & most importantly BLEND the highlighter and the bronzer thoroughly. Photo Credit: Azza Beauty via www.flickr.com/creativecommons/
  3. Using Old Makeup
    • Just like food, makeup expires; in the back or the bottom of makeup containers you will see the number of months that the product lasts. Think about it this way, you wouldn’t drink spoiled milk, so why would you use expired foundation? Especially with products like mascara, where bacteria quickly contaminates the product, make sure that you are replacing them after a couple of months.
  4. Not Moisturizing:
    • Your first step to a flawless makeup look is to protect your skin. Before you put makeup on use a rich moisturizer, this will prevent the makeup from harming your skin and causing it to dehydrate which leads to premature wrinkles and flaky skin. If you are worried about any excess oil, use an oil free moisturizer.
  5. Skipping Primer:
    • Making a makeup look last all day is something that every girl has struggled with. Primer is that secret weapon that allows you to have that ‘all day coverage’ without any smearing or smudging. An eyeshadow primer will also accentuate the colors of the shadows you are using, making them appear brighter and more pigmented. I also recommend finding a face primer that suits you; whether it be a pore-minimizing primer or a matte primer, the benefits of a priming go beyond making makeup last.
